Bald patches, yellowing grass and weeds creeping through are usually signs that your lawn is struggling with more than what you can see on the surface. And once those problems settle in, another mow or a little extra watering is rarely enough to turn things around.

We start by cutting your lawn much lower than we would during a normal mow. This removes the excess leaf and stem growth sitting on top and lets us get a proper look at the condition of the lawn underneath. At this stage, we often uncover thin areas, bare patches and stressed sections that were hidden by the longer grass. Clearing that growth also means the work we do next can reach down to ground level instead of getting caught in the grass above. Your lawn will look quite bare after we scalp it, and that is completely expected. We are clearing away what needs to go before we start rebuilding what stays.
Once we have cleared the surface, we go after the build-up underneath it. We scarify your lawn to pull out the layer of dead roots, stems and organic material known as thatch. A little thatch is normal, but when too much builds up, it creates a dense barrier between the grass and the soil. By removing that excess layer, we make it much easier for water, air and nutrients to get down into the root zone rather than sitting near the surface. It can be surprising how much material comes out of a lawn during this stage, but removing it gives the grass much better conditions to recover.
With the surface cleared, we turn our attention to the soil. Sydney lawns can become heavily compacted over time, particularly with regular foot traffic and clay-heavy soil. When we find that the ground has packed down, we aerate it by creating small openings throughout the compacted layer. Those openings give the roots more room to spread while helping water and oxygen travel deeper into the ground. Instead of trying to grow through hard, dense soil, your grass has more space to establish a stronger and deeper root system.
That becomes particularly important when Sydney turns hot and dry, because a lawn with deeper roots is much better equipped to handle those conditions.
The final stage is where we give your lawn the nutrition it needs to make the most of everything we have just done. We do not simply throw the same fertiliser over every lawn. We choose the feed based on your grass variety, the time of year and the condition of the lawn we are working with. After scalping, scarifying, aerating and top dressing, your lawn is in a much better position to take those nutrients in. Feeding it at this point helps support fresh growth and gives the grass what it needs to keep strengthening after we leave. The renovation itself may happen in a day. The recovery continues for weeks afterwards, and this final stage helps keep that progress moving.
With the soil opened up, we spread a fine layer of quality topsoil evenly across your lawn. That soil works its way into the openings we created during aeration and settles into the low points across the surface, which is how we smooth out the dips, hollows and uneven ground that build up in a lawn over time. It also gives the runners a fresh, clean medium to grow into, encouraging your grass to spread sideways and knit together rather than growing thin and patchy. We work the soil in carefully so the leaf is still exposed, and the lawn can keep photosynthesising while it recovers.
This is the stage that does the most for how your lawn feels underfoot, and it is what separates a lawn that simply looks green from one that is genuinely level and comfortable to walk on.
